Lanai Makeover

Lanai spaces have SO much potential. They offer spaces to extend your living square footage to the outdoors and when decorated and set up right can really add value to your home living experience.

When we bought our house we had an oversized lanai but no pool, over the years it has gone through many transformations. We've alway enjoyed access to our screened in area, it really does provide the opportunity for year round outside enjoyment that is bug free! That is especially beneficial when you’re allergic to everything outside like I am. Last year we finally bit the bullet and completed our pool construction and extended our lanai out several more feet to allow for better family living space inside our lanai and around our pool.

Here is a BEFORE photo of our lanai when we purchased our home. The space it offered was amazing but we had such a hard time figuring out WHAT to do with all space. Now the biggest areas are filled with a pool :) and we've created seating areas and play areas for our grand babies that offer adult relaxation and FUN for all ages.

Here are some fun shots of our pool construction. It was pretty amazing to watch this process. We used Trusted Pool and Spa, local to Parrish Fl and we loved them, Chris and Sylvia were amazing to work with and their entire crew from start to finish was fabulous.

Obviously we were ready to party before the pool was finished :) Shhhhh don’t tell Chris we got into the pool, he told us not too.

We really wanted to have an outside kitchen, but because the plumbing wasn't in place it was going to be a huge ordeal and the units were SO expensive and the cost was extreme to have one added. Instead, I decided to build a bar between the house the cement post. Our lanai bathroom is right behind the bar and is accessible at the end of the bar. You'll see that view in a sec.

This was is a basic farmhouse build. I designed it to 'look' built in because that was the vibe I was going for. The back side has open shelving with shutter style barn doors. I also built a surround for our bar fridge.

The top the bar is a feather finish cement over plywood, that was sealed 4x with Duck seal designed for concrete sealing :) both products are available on amazon if you’re interested in checking them out.

Mr. Shenanigans is the best cabana boy! My glass is NEVER empty and the food is ALWAYS on point!

For the rest of the lanai, we focused on comfy seating, lounging spots, and fun play spots for the grand babies!

This entire lanai with seating, the bar, and kids builds was under $1500. The most expensive pieces were the sectional and loungers which were purchased from Pier One on clearance last year for a few hundred bucks. Everything else was built, recycled, or created.

We are IN LOVE with our new outside space!

What is your favorite thing about the space? What is your favorite thing about your outside space? What do you wish you could do to your space ?

The possibilities are endless!
